Job Summary

The Automotive Service Writer serves as the primary liaison between customers and the service technicians. This role involves greeting customers, documenting vehicle concerns, preparing repair orders, providing estimates, and ensuring excellent customer service throughout the repair process. The Service Writer helps ensure efficient shop operations and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet customers and listen to their vehicle concerns or service requests.
• Create detailed repair orders outlining vehicle issues and required services.
• Provide repair and maintenance estimates to customers.
• Communicate with technicians regarding diagnostics and repair status.
• Update customers on repair progress and obtain approvals for additional work.
• Schedule service appointments and manage workflow for the service department.
• Process payments and close repair orders upon completion.
• Maintain accurate customer and vehicle service records.
• Recommend preventative maintenance services when appropriate.
• Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and professionalism.
• Coordinate with parts department for necessary components.
• Handle customer questions, concerns, or complaints in a professional manner.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience in automotive service writing, service advising, or automotive repair preferred.
• Strong understanding of automotive systems and repair terminology.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced service environment.
• Basic computer skills and experience with shop management software.
• Valid driver's license may be required.
