The Preschool Instructor supervises and instructs children enrolled in the Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten classes. Plans, organizes, and implements a diverse range of curriculum, activities and programs. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to Department of Human Services state rules and regulations regarding Child Care Centers.
  • Provides supervision and instruction of activities for children enrolled in programs and classes. Provides appropriate discipline and guidance as necessary.
  • Plans and coordinates the weekly curriculum.
  • Ensures maintenance and cleanliness of classroom, equipment and supplies.
  • Provides guidance to Preschool Activity Aides.
  • Ensures safety practices and administers First Aid and CPR when needed.
  • Communicates with parents regarding their children daily and during parent-teacher conferences two times per year.
  • Orders and purchases supplies.
  • Performs clerical and custodial tasks as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Must be at least 18 years old.

Must meet Early Childhood Teacher qualifications per the State of Colorado licensing requirements.

Education: Associate's Degree (60 semester credit hours) from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, including at least two (2), three (3)-semester credit hour courses in either:
  • Introduction to Early Childhood Professions; or,
  • Early Childhood Guidance Strategies for Children; or,
  • obtained a Colorado Pyramid Model Training certificate of completion; or, equivalent.
  • Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
    • CPR and First Aid Certifications
    Must complete pre-service trainings in PDIS before working directly with children.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of principles and practices in licensed childcare centers.
    • Knowledge of social service licensing procedures and childcare regulations.
    • Knowledge of Colorado Shines and Professional Development Information Systems (PDIS).
    • Skill in both written and oral communications for effective expression and clarity.
    • Skill in interacting with children and their parents.
    • Ability to respond to citizen complaints/concerns with considerable tact and courtesy.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in accordance with established Town policies and procedures.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, support staff, contracted personnel, volunteers, and other departments with which the position interacts.
    Physical Demands:
    • Ability to perform CPR and first aid
    • Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
    • Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
    • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment, classroom equipment, and other teaching instruments
    • Vision for reading, interpreting, and presenting information
    • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees, citizens, and classroom participants
    Work Environment:
    • Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment
    Must satisfactorily complete a central registry and criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
