Counselor - Alt Ed

Job Description:

Designs and implements a school guidance curriculum; provides individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support. Works as a team member with school staff, parents and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. Understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally that impact academic achievement of students is essential. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

Responsibilities:

* -- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
* -- Refer and connect students to appropriate resources to enhance learning and development
* -- Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).
* -- Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling practice and program.
* -- Encourage two-way communication to enhance and promote the school counseling program.
* -- Counsel students to encourage and support academic achievement. Assist students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, school adjustment, truancy, student habits and college/career planning.
* -- Use assessment data to measure student learning and academic growth and analyze results in planning counseling decisions.
* -- Assist in coordinating district, state, and/or post-secondary testing programs.
* -- Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs.
* -- Provide information to students and parents regarding academic progress, counseling programs, community resources, post-secondary opportunities, etc.
* -- Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.
* -- Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral problems affecting their educational situation. Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic, career, and personal/social needs.
* -- Manage a counseling program in order to support academic achievement, career planning, and personal/social development.
* -- Work collaboratively within the school environment and with appropriate stakeholders to advance the goals of the Counseling Program.
* -- Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
* - Document health related services in designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.
* -- Support students in the successful transition from each grade level into the next phase.

Position Salary Schedule Eligibility:

Hard to Hire

Licensed position salaries are set based on one of three salary schedules;
General, Hard to Hire, and Specialist/Extremely Hard to Hire. DCSD will award up to 7 years of previous licensed teaching experience at the time of hire.  to view the current DCSD Licensed Salary Schedules*.

* * All salary amounts listed on the schedules are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.
