Job Description & How to Apply Below
A rapidly growing global data center owner/operator is hiring a Director, Energy to lead power strategy, utility engagement, large-load interconnection, and energy commercialization across its national development portfolio.
This is a senior, strategic role for someone who understands how power availability, cost, schedule, transmission access, interconnection risk, and energy procurement directly impact data center site development and customer commitments.
The Director, Energy will work closely with development, commercial, permitting, environmental, finance, legal, engineering, and construction teams to ensure projects are positioned with credible, scalable, and executable power solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead energy strategy across active and prospective U.S. data center development markets
- Own relationships with utilities, system operators, energy suppliers, power providers, and commercial counter parties
- Lead large-load interconnection processes from early utility engagement through studies, agreements, cost estimates, and energization planning
- Assess power availability, transmission access, substation capacity, utility service timelines, tariffs, rates, and infrastructure requirements for prospective sites
- Partner with site selection and development teams to evaluate power viability before land or customer commitments are made
- Support the negotiation and structuring of utility service agreements, retail power contracts, PPAs, energy supply agreements, and behind-the-meter generation solutions
- Evaluate grid-connected, behind-the-meter, bridge power, gas generation, hybrid power, and dedicated generation opportunities
- Identify interconnection, schedule, cost, regulatory, tariff, and infrastructure risks that could impact project delivery
- Coordinate energy strategy across development, commercial, engineering, finance, legal, permitting, environmental, and construction functions
- Provide strategic input into market prioritization, portfolio planning, customer discussions, and commercial transactions
- 4+ years across energy, utilities, power development, data center power, infrastructure development, or energy commercialization
- Direct experience managing utility engagement and large-load interconnection for data centers, industrial loads, generation, or other large-load projects
- Strong understanding of utility service agreements, interconnection studies, tariffs, rate structures, transmission constraints, power procurement, and energization timelines
- Experience with PPAs, retail power contracts, utility agreements, energy supply agreements, and/or behind-the-meter generation
- Ability to assess how power availability, cost, schedule, and infrastructure risk influence site selection and development decisions
- Strong commercial judgement and ability to translate technical power-market information into clear business recommendations
- Experience across markets such as ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, WECC, SERC, NYISO, or other U.S. power markets preferred
- This is an opportunity to take ownership of energy strategy across a growing U.S. data center portfolio at a time when access to scalable, deliverable power is increasingly central to site development.
