- Supervises personnel; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; monitoring standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; recommending employee transfers, promotions, and salary increases as appropriate.
- Ensures the proper instruction, supervision and training of personnel in safety, methods and procedures, proper use of equipment, preventive maintenance, and related maintenance and repair.
- Oversees maintenance operations. Evaluates and assigns daily responsibilities. Supervises and performs repair, maintenance, and installations of park and recreation improvements, outdoor recreational amenities, trails, streetscapes, fields, parks, building grounds and equipment.
- Responds to public concerns and inquiries regarding all aspects of trails and open space maintenance and operations.
- Identifies, develops scope, and prioritizes volunteer projects available within parks, open space and trails. Works with volunteer coordinator to implement projects with appropriate volunteer and staff resources.
- Maintains and orders equipment, materials, and supplies inventory.
- Participates in planning, coordinating and running special events such as the National Arbor Day event, the Town’s 4 of July celebration, 5k runs, bicycle races, etc. that are scheduled for parks and open space venues. Coordinates public safety with other departments for such events. Provides assistance, coordination and maintenance of items for special events including tents, tables, stages, port‑o‑lets, litter pick‑up, signs, banners, etc.
- Performs record and report maintenance duties, e.g., monthly reports, accident forms, annual budget forms, open space management plan, work orders, time sheets, requisitions.
- Inspects open space, corrects public use or safety problems and addresses environmental concerns.
- Inspects the maintenance of athletic fields, e.g., sodding, installing mounds and bases, marking base paths, and correcting public safety hazards such as ground holes, loose turf, and debris.
- Inspects park improvements including restrooms, pavilions, trees, shrubs, turf, pavement, concrete, curb and gutter and signs.
- Inspects sprinkler systems, streetscape, trails, and building grounds necessary for repair and safety compliance.
- Responds to emergencies and assists personnel in all facets of tasks performed.
- Assists in annual budget preparation, work plan, and capital improvement plan.
- Implements management plans for open space resource areas and trail development.
- Ensures departmental priorities are achieved, coordinating resources and staffing with other Parks and Recreation divisions as appropriate.
- Coordinates use of equipment that is shared use. Moves equipment to necessary sites.
- May participate in noxious weed management, flood control, wildlife habitat restoration, forestry, wildfire mitigation and miscellaneous agricultural or land management practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
* This position is part of the Town's snow removal program. Will have scheduled on-call responsibilities through the winter months to remove snow using a 4-wheel drive pickup and/or heavy equipment. Snow removal shifts are typically 12 hours.*
