Technician, Teleport Operations

Perform routine on‑site installation, preventative maintenance, and routine repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment and products. Ensure system performance of communications equipment delivers the highest standard of service to customers. Provide level 1 maintenance and restoration actions, as well as intermediate‑level technical support in a 24x7 shift environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test and turn‑up new services by installing, configuring equipment, and completing all associated wiring, cabling, and administrative requirements directed by senior Teleport Operations team members.
  • Perform basic preventative and periodic maintenance checks of ground station equipment and subsystems.
  • Provide routine level 1 maintenance, including switching redundant equipment, performing power resets, and verifying equipment configuration.
  • Participate in training that expands knowledge of level 2 maintenance (removal, replacement, and configuration of equipment).
  • Execute basic components of emergency restoration procedures for ground station equipment such as antennas, up‑ and downlink systems, and baseband and video equipment.
  • Monitor conditions of commercial services and terrestrial facilities, including the status of system alarms, station plant, and facility subsystems using state‑of‑the‑art monitoring systems and test equipment.
  • Investigate and report equipment deficiencies related to reliability and efficiency for service operations.
  • Escalate open issues to senior technician or more senior operations staff.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, and updates for any service status change, maintenance, and fault/repair/restoration activities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Vocational training or equivalent technical education in Electronic Communications.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work in a 24x7 shift environment (days/nights) and be available for on‑call/call‑in responsibilities.
  • Basic working knowledge of Satellite Earth Station technologies relating to Teleport Operations.
  • General knowledge of ancillary plant systems such as HVAC, UPS, electrical switch gear, and generating systems.
  • Capability to work on various ground station communications systems and perform replacement of major assemblies.
  • General understanding of RF theory and basic electronics.
  • Ability to determine proper testing methods for equipment and RF/IF system chains.
  • Interest in learning new technologies and services, mainly related to Satellite Communications and Teleport Operations.
  • Good organizational, multi‑tasking, and team player skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • General PC skills and proficiency with Office Suite software.
  • Role subject to ITAR/EAR; candidates must be a US Person (US Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee).
Nice to Have
  • General understanding of antenna drive systems, high‑power amplifiers, up/down converters, fiber‑optic subsystems, baseband equipment (modems, multiplexers, broadband, IP, and video technologies/systems).
  • General working knowledge of standard test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, power meters, synthesized generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and bit error rate test sets.
Key Deliverables
  • Monitor telemetry, tracking, and command, commercial services, and terrestrial facilities, including system alarms, plant, and facility subsystems.
  • Support IP and baseband equipment (modems, multiplexers, DVB, broadband) and video systems, identifying inefficient processes and unreliable equipment.
  • Provide documentation, reports, and updates for any service status change, maintenance, and fault/repair/restoration.
  • Additional emergency and safety requirements: visual acuity (20/20 vision or better), ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
