Job Description – Veterinary Assistant

Highly‑rated, fast‑paced pet hospital in the East Bay is expanding and needs an energetic, caring, responsible and hard‑working individual with an outstanding work ethic to fill our Veterinary Assistant position.

• Animal handling experience and confidence
• Ability to lift objects or pets of at least 50lb
• Recognize certain behaviors in animals
• Working knowledge of basic medical terminology, common procedures and animal husbandry
• Comfortable interacting with the public
• Competent computer skills, spelling, alphabetizing, and basic mathematics
• Provide exceptional customer service

Act as a direct assistant to veterinarians and coordinate the care of each patient. Tasks include getting a history from the client, assisting the veterinarian during the examination, keeping meticulous notes on the medical findings, and recording care recommendations for each patient. You serve in a wide variety of tasks in animal care coordination and treatment, customer service, and record keeping.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with people as much as animals. Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or similar environment is preferred. Please submit a brief paragraph with your resume explaining how your experience has prepared you for this position.

• The base hourly range for this position is $18.00–$20.00. Pay is determined by role, level, location, experience, and education.
