Mathematics Adjunct Faculty; Part-Time

Overview

Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for part‑time Mathematics Adjunct Faculty in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course‑by‑course, semester basis as needed. The role involves teaching college‑level mathematics courses in‑person on the main campus. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and stay current with trends in community college education.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

• Must possess a Master’s degree in Mathematics or a Master’s degree (in any field) with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics courses.
• All Adjunct Faculty positions require excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to write syllabi and exams; the ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum and assessments; and the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
• Doctorate degree in Mathematics is an additional consideration.
• Teaching experience at the college level is an additional consideration.

The selected candidate’s offer is contingent upon successful completion of an extensive criminal background investigation, which may include fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, education verification, credit checks (relevant to employment), and other checks requested by the VCCS such as I‑9 and E‑Verify requirements. Additionally, selected candidates may be required to complete the Commonwealth’s Statement of Economic Interest.
