Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Instructor (Part-Time)
Virginia Western Community College is seeking experienced clinical medical assistants to serve as part‑time instructors for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program. Classes are held evenings and/or weekends on the main campus in Roanoke, VA.
Responsibilities- Teach students in classroom and skills‑lab settings to prepare them for the National Health career Association (NHA) CCMA exam.
- Deliver established course curriculum and lab set‑up, ensuring lab safety.
- Monitor student progress, assess content mastery and skill proficiency, and maintain student attendance and grades in accordance with college policies.
- Assist with content development, curriculum design, and instructional technology troubleshooting.
- Track equipment usage and inventory.
- Report any student or instructional concerns to program leadership.
- Current or former Clinical Medical Assistant with at least one year of experience in a medical‑assisting role.
- Current CMA certification and ability to demonstrate expert‑level skills needed to pass the CCMA exam.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare or a related field and five years of work experience in a patient‑care setting (clinical medical assisting, LPN or RN).
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to develop syllabi, exams, learning strategies and assessments.
- Experience teaching adult learners, preferably in accelerated certification‑preparation courses.
- Familiarity with Canvas or a similar learning‑management system is helpful.
- Detail‑oriented, able to meet deadlines and manage a fast‑paced instructional schedule.
