Position: Paramedic Adjunct Faculty (Part-Time)

Adjunct Faculty – Paramedic

Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education located in southwest Roanoke, VA, serving a diverse region that includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The college welcomes applications for adjunct faculty to provide classroom instruction for Paramedic courses in the School of Health Professions. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching discipline and in trends in community college education.

Responsibilities

The Paramedic Adjunct Faculty position provides education and training support to students in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) and Paramedic levels. This role involves delivering comprehensive educational support, including instruction of psychomotor skills vital for effective EMS practice; evaluating student performance in the lab setting to ensure proficiency in essential skills and procedures;

preparing and organizing instructional materials and resources for lab sessions; and cultivating a positive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of an associate's degree.
  • Excellent computer applications proficiency.
  • Professional healthcare credential of Paramedic(s).
  • At least two years experience in emergency medicine/prehospital care.
  • Knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing, and evaluation of students.
  • Knowledgeable in the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards.
  • Knowledgeable in the National Registry of EMTs.
  • Nationally Registered Paramedic certification.
  • Virginia Paramedic certification.

All adjunct faculty positions require excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Virginia Education Coordinator certification.
  • AHA BLS CPR Instructor.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor.
  • Advanced Medical Life Support Instructor.
  • Emergency Pediatric Care or equivalent.
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support Instructor or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology routinely into instructional and faculty responsibilities, including use of the Canvas (LMS) Learning Management System for online learning development/teaching, and current Microsoft Office programs.
