Geology Adjunct Faculty (Part‑time)
Work LocationVirginia Western Community College, Roanoke, VA – In‑person at the main campus or hybrid (online lectures with in‑person labs)
Salary$793 – $1,278 per credit hour. Faculty rank determined upon credentialing.
Work ScheduleHours and days vary based on course offerings and enrollment. Positions are appointed on a semester‑basis, as needed.
Responsibilities- Teach college‑level courses in Geology.
- Develop syllabi, learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Maintain currency in the teaching discipline and trends in community‑college education.
- Work with students of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
- Participate in all Geology department communications.
- Assist with other duties as assigned, including emergency support if required.
- Master’s degree in Geology or a Master’s in any field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Geology courses.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to write syllabi and exams.
- Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Capability to work with students of varied abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- Doctorate degree in Geology (preferred).
- Teaching experience at the college level (preferred).
The selected candidate’s offer is contingent upon the successful completion of an extensive criminal background investigation, which may include fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, education verification, credit checks (relevant to employment), and other checks requested by the Virginia Community College System. Selected candidates may also be required to complete the Commonwealth’s Statement of Economic Interest.
