Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Virginia Western Community College is a two‑year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System. The College’s mission is to provide quality and affordable education and professional training to the community. This part‑time clinical instructor position is located in the School of Health Professions and supports the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program. Clinical instructors work in a laboratory or clinical setting assisting and overseeing the work of EMS students and are expected to maintain currency in their discipline and in trends in community college education.
Responsibilities
- Assist and oversee the work of EMS students in laboratory and clinical settings.
- Supervise, provide instruction, and evaluate student performance.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the EMS system within the Roanoke area.
- Support curriculum development and integrate technology such as the Canvas Learning Management System and Microsoft Office programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting the agency or state government during emergency declarations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus at least 2 years of clinical experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
- Proficiency in supervision, instruction, and evaluation.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Associate’s degree in the teaching field is preferred.
- Current or recent classroom and/or online teaching experience, specifically in an EMS program.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology routinely into instructional responsibilities, including use of Canvas LMS and Microsoft Office.
- Preferred: current NREMT–Paramedic certification.

Background checks including criminal history, healthcare‑specific checks, and a drug screen are required as a condition of employment. Successful candidates may be required to complete the Commonwealth’s Statement of Economic Interest.
