The Radiology Technologist, holding a limited radiology technician license, performs diagnostic x‑rays in a clinical setting following established radiologic and regulatory requirements to ensure patient and staff safety. The role includes supporting clinic operations (clinical and clerical) and ensuring equipment function and quality standards.
Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic x‑rays within licensed scope of practice, as directed by provider.
- Operate digital radiography (DR) and PACS systems, ensuring equipment is in good working order and compliant with regulations.
- Report equipment concerns or malfunctions to practice manager and submit work orders.
- Perform quality control checks and audits of radiologic equipment.
- Maintain records/logs of activities, including x‑rays sent to other facilities.
- Prepare patients for imaging, including identification, order verification, procedure explanation, and answering questions.
- Position patient and adjust equipment to acquire quality images as ordered.
- Observe patients for discomfort or distress and take appropriate action.
- Interact with electronic medical records for orders and input data.
- Respond to provider questions regarding exams.
- Maintain competency through continuing education, annual in‑services, and annual competency checks.
- May perform venipuncture and cardiac monitoring for imaging.
- Follow radiation protection processes and the ALARA principle.
- Travel to nearby centers for training or coverage as needed.
- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent; graduate from an accredited school or program of Radiological Sciences – Limited. - Experience:
None required. - Licensure:
Limited Medical Radiology Technician license in the State of Virginia. - Certification: AHA BLS‑HCP certification within 30 days of hire.
- Skills:
Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills; knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical records.
$23.23 – $32.52 per hour, based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior experience. Compensation does not include benefits or pension plan.
