The Honors Administrative Assistant / Advisor provides administrative assistance to the Honors Program Director and serves as an advisor to Honors students. The role requires a solid understanding of the Honors Program’s operations and the student population, and plays a valuable role in recruitment and retention by developing meaningful relationships with students and supporting their academic planning and completion goals. The assistant is the main point of contact for the Honors Program, creates program communications, and may represent the program on campus and in the larger community.
EssentialFunctions
- Advise and assist students in planning their honors academic education, including creating degree‑specific plans, meeting with Freshman–Junior honors students prior to registration, communicating honors course updates, and collaborating with other academic advisors on honors requirements.
- Update, maintain, and audit honors student records to ensure progress toward graduation.
- Assist the Director with office tasks such as purchasing needs, weekly newsletter, surveys, announcements, program reports, and budget management. Manage student office workers and meet with office staff regularly.
- Collect data and generate reports for the honors program and support program functions, which may include occasional evenings and weekends.
- Oversee the Honors program email account, responding promptly to inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Meet with prospective Honors students and their parents.
- Perform additional office and clerical duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of professional office and/or customer service experience.
- Proficiency with software programs such as Microsoft Word, Google Suite, Adobe, Canva, and Mailerlite.
- Ability to build rapport and develop relationships.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of Honors Program policies and procedures.
- Excellent customer service, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Knowledge of professional and organizational communication, higher education, student affairs, business management, graphic design, and/or program planning and evaluation.
This position is contingent on funding. Due to recent changes in H1B visa fees, Southern Utah University can no longer sponsor international faculty and staff that require an H1B visa and are currently living outside the United States.
