Family advocates work closely with Head Start parents and/or guardians to provide support for all areas of Head Start services including education, health, literacy, employability, training and any other necessary areas. They will have primary responsibility for building community connections in areas they are assigned to. Date of first consideration: 05/19/2026.
Essential Functions- Within first 45 days of enrollment in the program meet with each assigned family, complete parent interest survey and program record‑keeping forms. Continue regular visits, in homes when possible, to assess needs and provide support in completing goals.
- Support parent engagement through parent and child interactions, assisting with parent meetings, parent committee and policy council.
- Monitor and document child attendance daily. Maintain accurate documentation including advocate end‑of‑month log, record‑keeping forms and recruitment logs.
- Make referrals when necessary to proper agencies to adequately meet the needs of Head Start families. Follow up on referrals made.
- Assist in the recruitment and enrollment of families into Head Start.
- Participate and assist in the creation and/or presentation of training that will aid parents.
- Attend training sessions and conferences that pertain to personal career development. Attend all staff and other required training.
- Work closely with Community Engagement Manager to keep up to date with community services and to coordinate community activities. Attend community collaboration meetings as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Within first 90 days of program work closely with parents and/or guardians to prepare an Individualized Family Partnership Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School or GED.
- Must obtain Family Service credential within 18 months of hire.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and contribute to a climate of inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Spanish speaking.
