Special Education​/Secondary Education Licensed Teacher - Residential Youth Treatment

Overview

Special Education Teacher at Lava Heights Academy in Toquerville, Utah. Lava Heights Academy is a residential treatment program that provides a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for vulnerable young women who are referred from juvenile courts and social service agencies locally and across the country. The youth enter the program with a history of abuse, neglect, trauma, substance abuse, mental illness and violence.

This is a full-time, salaried, Licensed Teacher position at our residential school program working with youth  position is teaching to grades 7-12 in a multi-age classroom environment. Small classroom sizes (approximately 10 students per class) and a supportive, collaborative, and fun team of educators to work with. You will use various methodologies and research related to learning, effective classroom management techniques and behavioral management styles, and effective communication techniques that enable positive and productive collaboration with site staff.

Technology and its educational use will be integrated as a learning tool.

Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

• Be at least 21 years of age
• Possess a current and valid Utah State teaching license credentialed in English, Math, Science and/or Special Education
• At least 3 years of successful classroom experience
• Related experience working with at-risk youth
• If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible Rite of Passage driver
• Must possess a current State Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years
• Be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and TB test
• Be able to pass a search of the child abuse central registry
