Mission

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County's mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens and leaders. BGCUC accomplishes this by providing school day and after school-based programs throughout the state of Utah.

A Mental Health School Navigator is placed in a middle or high school, agency contracted to serve those schools, after school or community program. MHSN's will provide regular small group wellbeing and mental health skill-building sessions, individualized student support and related administrative support.

Program Overview

Ameri Corps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. Candidates selected for this position will be enrolled as Ameri Corps Youth Mental Health Corps members. They will gain hands‑on experience while earning recognized college credit or credentials representing a beneficial step toward fulfilling and in‑demand careers in the healthcare, mental health, education, and social services fields. They will receive training, professional network development, career exploration and readiness, wraparound supports, and a stipend.

You will be expected to complete a minimum term of service of 300 or 450 service hours. This is a great opportunity to add service, hands‑on teaching experience, and credit hours and/or required Utah School Board of Education training certificates to your resume!

Job Summary
  • Part‑time, full time, weekdays, and/or after school
  • Shifts may start as early as 7:30 am
  • Monthly/quarterly trainings
  • Schedule details will vary depending on your site
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mental health and resilience skill‑building lessons during the time allocated each week
  • Maintain records of lesson plans and track data for the number of youth served
  • Complete weekly timesheets and regular reports
  • Evaluate progress of youth served using assessments and rubrics
  • Support licensed healthcare professionals by promoting well‑being and recovery or by performing allowable administrative and supportive functions
  • Complete higher education credit hours or credited certification during or within six months of the end of service term
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes
  • Build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and your team
  • Promote and stimulate program participation
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members
  • Ensure youth are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s)
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of youth
  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for all youth and visitors
  • Monitor and evaluate program services and activities
  • Oversee youth safety, program quality, and appearance of the host site at all times
Supervision
  • Supervise and ensure safety during indoor and outdoor activities (rain or shine)
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in regular staff meetings
Additional Responsibilities
  • May participate in special programs and/or events
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and all grant‑required training
  • Participate in MLK Day of Service and National Ameri Corps Service Week
Compensation

A service term will provide a living allowance of $4,800 (for 300 hours) or $7,200 (for 450 hours) paid over the term of your service. The stipend will be split up and paid on a bi‑weekly basis during your term of service.

NOTE:
