Mechanical Superintendent – Southern Utah

The Mechanical Superintendent reports to the Operations Manager and leads all maintenance and mechanical functions supporting Milford Mining Company’s mining and mineral processing operations. This role provides both hands‑on and strategic leadership to ensure safe execution, maximum equipment reliability, and continuous improvement across crushing, grinding, flotation, acid leach, solvent extraction (SX), and electrowinning (EW) circuits.
The Superintendent oversees maintenance personnel and contractors, partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and Health & Safety, and drives performance, uptime, and cost control across the site.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and develop maintenance supervisors, planners, and skilled trades.
- Set clear expectations for safety, accountability, and performance.
- Champion a strong safety culture aligned with MSHA and company standards.
- Direct contractors during specialized maintenance and shutdowns.
- Own preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Maximize reliability of critical assets including crushers, mills, flotation systems, leach circuits, SX/EW systems, pumps, motors, drives, conveyors, and material handling equipment.
- Lead root cause failure analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Plan and execute major shutdowns and maintenance events.
- Apply mechanical and process engineering principles to improve performance, safety, and maintainability.
- Support debottlenecking and throughput improvements across oxide and sulfide circuits.
- Participate in equipment selection, design reviews, and commissioning of new systems.
- Track and manage KPIs including availability, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance costs.
- Manage maintenance budgets (labor, parts, contractors).
- Optimize spare parts inventory and materials management.
- Utilize CMMS and planning tools to drive efficiency and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with MSHA, environmental, and company safety standards.
- Lead safety meetings, JHAs, and maintenance‑related incident investigations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering or equivalent hands‑on mining/industrial maintenance experience.
- Proven maintenance leadership experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industry.
- Advanced hands‑on expertise with crushing, grinding, flotation, leach, SX/EW systems, pumps, motors, power transmission, welding/fabrication.
- Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Working knowledge of MSHA regulations.
- Copper or base metal mining experience.
- Reliability engineering or maintenance management training.
- Experience leading major shutdowns or capital projects.
- CMMS proficiency.
Active mining and mineral processing site combining office, plant, and field work. Extended hours required during shutdowns and critical maintenance events.
