Position Summary

The role of the Veterans Non-Clinical Case Manager (VNCCM) is pivotal in spearheading initiatives to enhance retention and completion rates for military-connected students at Southern Utah University. Overseen by the Director of Student Outreach & Support and in collaboration with the Director of the Veterans Resource and Support Center, the VNCCM will play a vital role in overseeing assigned non-clinical cases and assisting military-connected students in accessing critical campus and community resources.

Moreover, the VNCCM will actively participate in non-clinical case management, extending holistic support to our military-connected student population. Their expertise will be instrumental in guiding students who are considering withdrawal, facing academic transitions, or showing indicators of declining health, wellness, or retention scores, helping them navigate university support systems and connecting them with appropriate departmental, VA, and community resources.

Essential Functions
  • Case Management Support:
    Coordinate support and resources in non-clinical case management for academic, wellness, mental health, behavioral, transition, and crisis-related concerns impacting military-connected students.
  • Interdisciplinary

    Collaboration:

    Collaborate with the Student Outreach & Support and Veterans Resource team and other campus constituents to assess students' needs and risks, consider campus and community resources, and develop individualized intervention and success plans for students of concern.
  • Transition & Engagement Support:
    Work with incoming, returning, re-engaged, and transfer military-connected students to develop tailored transition plans and provide resource connection that supports successful enrollment, persistence, and completion.
  • Early Alert Intervention:
    Assist in fulfilling the Early Alerts process; provide timely support and intervention to military-connected students who are struggling with academic performance, course attendance, health, wellness, or other barriers to success.
  • Data & Records Management:
    Monitor and analyze semesterly data related to student academic concerns, behavioral concerns, retention efforts, and case interventions; maintain accurate records and generate reports to identify trends, collaborate with leadership on intervention strategies, and maintain a working knowledge of VA educational benefits to support peak operational periods.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • One to two years of experience working with students in higher education, student support services, retention initiatives, case management, or a related field.
  • Self-Motivation & Prioritization:
    Proven self-motivation and organizational acumen to independently plan and execute tasks and projects under deadlines; take ownership of issues, make decisions and see them through to resolution, and manage multiple priorities, follow-ups, and support requests effectively.
  • Institutional Representation:
    Ability to represent the Student Outreach & Support Office to senior leaders of the university, current/prospective students, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including proven effectiveness in speaking on a one-on-one basis and making oral presentations before groups.
  • Crisis &

Pressure Resilience:
Ability to maintain calm, composure, and resilience under pressure; defuse frustrated students, navigate tense conversations with empathy and steadiness, and demonstrate perseverance when students in crisis or transition; in luding military-connected students.

  • Compliance & Research Capacity:
    Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Technical Aptitude:
    Strong computer skills, including experience with data entry, record management, reporting, and administrative databases.
