Job DescriptionThe University of Northern Iowa's Department of Art & Graphic Design seeks applications for a part time, temporary Assistant Adjunct Professor, starting in August 2026, who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and student success. This position will teach two courses per semester: twice a week of Ceramics;
Ceramics I and a stacked course section consisting of Ceramics II, Ceramics III and Undergraduate Ceramics (the most advanced section, which can be repeated for credit). This position will also oversee and help maintain a large and well‑equipped studio, including wet glaze room, dry glaze room, clay mixing room, materials storage room, indoor and exterior kiln facilities.
The Department of Art & Graphic Design serves approximately 270 majors. Curriculum offerings include BA and BFA degrees with emphases in art education, art history, and studio arts (ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, performance, photography, printmaking, sculpture), and an MA in Art Education, and offers undergraduates a Museum Studies Certificate. The Department of Art & Graphic Design is home to the UNI Gallery of Art.
Required QualificationsMFA in Ceramics and experience teaching ceramics at college level as instructor of record required.
Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of current technologies/digital materiality (3D Printing, mold making); active engagement with trends in contemporary ceramics; demonstrated strong skills in classroom presentation; and college level teaching experience beyond graduate student teaching preferred.
