** OVERVIEW The Study Abroad Advisor role at the University of Northern Iowa supports students pursuing global learning opportunities within higher education. This professional position focuses on advising, recruitment, and program administration for study abroad and student exchange experiences that enrich the uni curriculum and student development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Advise students on study abroad and National Student Exchange programs – Guide students through program selection, eligibility, academic planning, and application processes – Support students before, during, and after their study away experiences, including course selection, credit transfer, and re-entry – Recruit students for the study abroad program – Organize promotional events and materials – Supervise peer advisors – Assist with program development and assessment – Manage student billing related to programs – Monitor international safety and immigration updates – Maintain program-related digital platforms REQUIREMENTS – Bachelor’s degree – Excellent communication and customer service skills – Experience working, studying, or traveling abroad – At least one year of experience in advising, recruiting, orientation, teaching, or student affairs in higher education
– Experience with study abroad programs
– Experience with spreadsheets and desktop publishing software – Working knowledge of at least one foreign language preferred – Student experience will be considered WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Study abroad and student exchange programs play a vital role in broadening academic and cultural perspectives within a university environment.
