Basic Function
:
The para‑educator provides instructional and other services to children, youth and their parents or guardians. The position supports creating a safe, positive learning environment; student development across intellectual, physical, social, emotional, behavioral domains; positive relationships; technology integration; and exposure to professional role models.

Responsibilities performed under the direction of licensed staff include:

• Classroom assistance
  : prepare instructional materials, correct student work, record grades, monitor progress, assist individual students or small groups, maintain bulletin boards, and maintain classroom environment.
• Supervision
  : supervise students in lunchrooms, playgrounds, study halls, bus areas, field trips and other assigned locations.
• Special Needs
  : work with students with IEPs, IHPs, 504 plans, physical disabilities, or ELLs.
• Activities of Daily Living (ADL): assist with dietary, toileting, diapering and hygiene needs.
• Office functions
  : clerical duties such as word processing, data entry, filing, bookkeeping, etc.
• Media assistance
  : assist media staff with library and AEA library functions.
• Other duties
  : participate in professional development and other responsibilities as assigned.

• Experience
  :
  Not required, but prior related work is beneficial.
• Skills
  : oral/written communications; listening; clear instruction; basic PC use.
