A rapidly growing Iowa based company in the Des Moines area is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and scale its accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a highly visible, hands on leadership role responsible for both executing day-to-day accounting operations and building the financial infrastructure needed to support a capital intensive, high growth business.
You’ll work directly with the CEO and executive team while leading a team of two accounting professionals. This is an opportunity to step into a role where you can influence strategy, build processes, and drive meaningful organizational impact.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and fixed assets
- Own month end, quarter end, and year end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and deliver financial statements and internal management reporting
- Oversee cost accounting, including infrastructure, energy usage, and equipment depreciation
- Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures for compliance and scalability
- Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and financing in a capital intensive environment
- Evaluate and implement accounting systems and process improvements
- Build, mentor, and lead a high performing accounting team
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
- Experience in manufacturing, energy, or other asset heavy industries preferred
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting and internal controls
- Experience with ERP systems, Quick Books, and advanced Excel skills
- Proven ability to operate in a fast paced, evolving environment
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership capabilities
- Base Salary: $140,000–$180,000 (DOE)
