Overview

The Materials Management & Procurement Director will lead the Procurement and Materials Management Organization within the Cedar Falls Operations team. This role ensures efficient delivery and flow of materials, optimizes material flow, reduces costs, and improves continuous improvement strategies while minimizing waste.

Primary Function

Responsible for the Procurement and Materials Management Organization, including Receiving, Inventory Control, Direct Procurement, and Warehousing programs. The director drives team accountability to achieve key metrics such as safety, inventory accuracy, cost, delivery, space optimization, and employee engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement supply‑chain strategies to optimize operations, material flow, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
  • Lead the organization to ensure planning, inventory, receiving, and order processing are timely, accurate, and aligned with overall business goals.
  • Analyze complex issues requiring in‑depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Determine methods and procedures for new assignments and coordinate activities of other personnel.
  • Oversee the entire material flow process from procurement to stockroom, ensuring efficiency, cost‑effectiveness, and timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Manage procurement of direct components and finished goods.
  • Build productive working relationships internally and externally.
  • Represent the organization on specific projects.
  • Optimize inventory levels to balance cost and customer service, ensuring timely availability of products.
  • Oversee material flow operations related to supplier transportation, warehousing, and distribution to internal customers.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance material and supply‑chain performance.
  • Provide customers with quality experiences, establishing and maintaining effective relationships and demonstrating customer‑service orientation.
  • Lead and manage a team of materials‑management and supply‑chain professionals, providing guidance, training, and development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years in an operations‑leadership position.
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years in a purchasing position (or related experience in manufacturing, product engineering, or machine‑shop quality).
  • College degree (BA in business, materials, or engineering). MBA preferred.
  • Negotiating experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and MRP systems (JD Edwards preferred, but not required).
Other Requirements
  • Positions may require access to controlled goods and technologies subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations; applicants may need to be a U.S. Person.
  • Will require domestic and/or international travel.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, be highly organized, and self‑motivated.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize several distinct functions, delegate appropriate authority, review performance, and maintain high morale.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand comprehensive reports, forecasts, estimates, and budgets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and all levels of corporate personnel.
Work Environment

Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions. Must communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person. Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use. General manufacturing, warehouse, and office environment.
