Position: Seasonal Laborer - Maintenance Support Services (Facilities)

Cedar Falls Utilities is currently recruiting for a Seasonal Laborer - Maintenance. As a member of the Maintenance Support Services Facilities team at Cedar Falls Utilities, this individual will perform general labor tasks in grounds maintenance, landscaping, building maintenance, and other areas as assigned in a safe and efficient manner.

The hours for this position is 40 hours/week. The term for the position is expected to coincide with the typical summer break for college students.

525 reputation of being a trusted provider of utility services. The Seasonal Laborer - Maintenance works under general supervision of the Maintenance Support Services Manager.

Compensation &

Work Schedule:

  • Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. $15/Hour - $20/Hour.
  • Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm with a half hour lunch break.
Responsibilities
  • Assists with grounds maintenance (grounds, parking lots, etc.) including mowing, trimming, edging, picking up trash, cleaning, and organizing work areas.
  • Assists with landscaping including trimming of plants and trees, weed removal, mulching, planting, and relocating as needed.
  • Assists with interior and exterior painting projects.
  • Provides assistance in general building музык maintenance and preventative maintenance including replenishing supplies, replacing batteries and light‑bulbs, and atl changing/constructing office furniture as needed.
  • Provides general labor assistance for any construction projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, coworkers, and management.
Qualifications

Education/

Experience:

  • No education/prior work experience required.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Iowa Driver's License and meet CFU insurability requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of: Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Skills:

    • Operation Monitoring

      Skills:

      Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine or equipment is working properly.
    • Active Listening

      Skills:

      Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
    • Critical Thinking

      Skills:

      Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to: Work in extreme hot or cold environments as work performed is outdoors. Ability to follow instructions both verbal and written and adhere to safety standards. Ability to operate equipment such as zero turn mower, push mower, weed trimmer, and lawn edger in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to safely operate vehicle and maneuver trailer.

Physical Tasks and

Environmental Conditions:

  • Work involves frequently carrying/lifting objects 40 lbs or less and occasionally items that are 50 lbs. This job requires frequent standing, walking, and climbing ladders. Occasional squatting, crouching, kneeling, bending, pushing, and pulling. Close proximity to moving machinery and equipment. Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.

Pre‑employment drug screen and physical is required.
