Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automotive Technician
POSITION SUMMARY
With direct supervision from a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, or Maintenance Manager, a Maintenance Technician B performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non‑diesel equipment and trucks, including chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies, control systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, air brake systems, general engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drive train, steering systems, and basic tire work such as replacement, rotation, and tread depth checks.
The role supports a single fleet of state‑of‑the‑art vehicles and services drivers on daily routes.
- Maintain a working knowledge of vehicle components and systems to perform preventative and repair maintenance both on‑site and on the road.
- Repair chassis components, refuse bodies (control, hydraulic, electrical), air and hydraulic braking systems.
- Perform light engine repair and maintenance, suspension, drivetrain, and steering system work.
- Handle heating and air‑conditioning maintenance.
- Conduct line‑maintenance welding and fabrication.
- Provide road service when necessary to return equipment to operation safely and efficiently.
- Identify malfunctions using electronic tools.
- Complete company training programs and perform additional job‑related duties as assigned.
- Ability to diagnose multi‑system issues and demonstrate technical expertise.
- Basic understanding of work‑order labor time standards.
- Prior experience or knowledge of maintenance on Classes 1‑5 light/medium duty and heavy‑duty Class 7‑8 trucks, aircraft, or ships.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications (T1‑T8) are a plus but not required.
- Commercial Driver’s License is a plus but not required.
- 3‑5 years of technician experience with gasoline and diesel equipment diagnosis and repair, or graduation from an accredited automotive college or technical school within the next 3 months.
- Valid driver’s license.
Ability to perform basic inspections with limited supervision in heavy truck or automotive systems such as suspension & steering, general engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drive train, and diesel emissions. Must be able to work a 1st‑shift schedule Mon‑Fri.
