CROSSING GUARDReports To:
School Principal
Supervises and safeguards students while crossing at a designated crosswalk to assure pedestrian safety and demonstrate proper safety procedures.
NATURE & SCOPEPerforms work of a routine and recurring nature in accordance with clearly defined procedures and guidelines under continuing supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Oversees students crossing at a crosswalk; assures safety of students.
- Instructs students in safety procedures, such as, crossing when green go signal is activated and watching for speeding motorists.
- Reports students and motorists disobeying traffic rules and laws to the school principal.
- Provides back-up support to other positions in case of absence or work overload.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
The work is performed primarily outdoors exposing employees to inclement weather and traffic hazards.
Knowledge,Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of rules, practices and procedures contained in HANDBOOK FOR ADULT CROSSING GUARD, provided by the District.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment.
- Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines.
- Ability to oversee students at a crosswalk and to identify potentially unsafe conditions.
- Ability to physically perform assigned duties.
High school diploma, or G.E.D., and six months crossing guard experience is desirable; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.
