Job Summary And Qualifications

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist produces images in accordance with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) standards. Furthermore, the technologist will perform within the guidelines set by the Bureau of Radiation Control, Hospital Policies and Procedures Manual and the Radioactive Materials License. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is accountable to the Radiation Safety Officer for ensuring all regulations are in compliance in the Department.

Provides services using radioisotopes to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of disease. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist demonstrates knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of nuclear medicine, radiation protection and specialized techniques. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary of medical ethics.
  • Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
  • Consistently produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric.
  • Follow established protocols for imaging and isotopes dosage; adjusts when appropriate for age or disease.
  • Operate all Nuclear Medicine cameras, computers and related equipment, efficiently and effectively.
  • Complete quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organizing and prioritizing workflow.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scanning trauma, acute & challenging patients; possess skill to modify positioning and scanning factors when standard cannot be performed.
  • Possess knowledge of disease processes, adequately image these findings and communicate them to the Radiologist.
  • Perform radioactive therapy procedures according to Nuclear Medicine Policies and Procedures and the Radioactive Material License.
