Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:
Provides health care services, applying sound energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Perform ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in all areas of ultrasound. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and /or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.
Applies knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to identify patient and family requirements relative to age-specific needs.
Participates in providing patient-specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Required:
Must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform all ultrasound procedures including diagnostic, therapeutic, abdominal, vascular, portable, invasive guidance and neonatal exams. Must work well with others in a busy Imaging department. Must be customer oriented to provide outstanding services to patients, physicians, visitors and co-workers. Maintains awareness of patient privacy (HIPAA), confidentiality, and dignity at all times.
Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David’s South Austin Medical Center.
Preferred:
Computer skills, previous experience in applicable field
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
A single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related (Allied health occupations include, but are not limited to, diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist and registered nurse.) OR Graduate of a program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), United States Department of Education (USDOE) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA), that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology.
(Currently (as of 12/2013) the only organizations that offer programmatic accreditation under the aforementioned associations are the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA));
Minimum one year experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
Preferred:
Associates Degree or higher in a related technological field. One year of previous experience as a Radiologic Technician.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Required:
- Credentials with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), RVT certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
- BLS certification as per SDH policy
Preferred:
Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), post-primary certification in Sonography. Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
