Job Title: PT Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)

SUMMARY

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) provides medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and withdrawal management for clients admitted to the medically supervised detoxification program. The FNP collaborates with nursing, clinical, and leadership teams to ensure safe, evidence-based care, appropriate medical stabilization, and continuity of treatment while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, Joint Commission standards, HIPAA, DEA requirements, and organizational policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform admission history and physical examinations and determine medical appropriateness for detoxification services.
  • Assess withdrawal severity using evidence-based assessment tools, including CIWA, COWS, and other clinically indicated protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and modify individualized detoxification treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications and manage withdrawal symptoms within the scope of licensure and established medical protocols.
  • Conduct ongoing medical assessments, evaluate client progress, and address acute medical concerns throughout treatment.
  • Review laboratory results, diagnostic testing, vital signs, and nursing assessments to guide clinical decision-making.
  • Determine when a client requires transfer to a higher level of medical care.
  • Collaborate with nursing, therapists, admissions, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to coordinate care and discharge planning.
  • Complete accurate and timely medical documentation, including history and physicals, progress notes, medication orders, and discharge summaries in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable licensing requirements, DEA regulations, HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, organizational policies, and evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, regulatory readiness, and medical staff meetings.
  • Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.
  • Current, unrestricted Texas Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) license.
  • Current national board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current DEA registration with prescriptive authority.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
