The City of Cedar Park is seeking applicants for the position of Facility Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Maintenance department. The Facility Maintenance Technician I is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while tending to the varying demands that go along with maintaining a growing and aging building infrastructure. Duties include assisting other Facility Maintenance Technicians and the Facility Maintenance Supervisor in the basic repair and maintenance of municipal owned structures and systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and general building maintenance work;
moving furniture; setting up for events; and addressing other requests received through a ticketing system, email, or varying other reporting methods.

Job Summary
The Facility Maintenance Technician I is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while tending to the varying demands that go along with maintaining a growing and aging building infrastructure. Duties include assisting other Facility Maintenance Technicians and the Facility Maintenance Supervisor in the basic repair and maintenance of municipal owned structures and systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and general building maintenance work;
moving furniture; setting up for events; and addressing other requests received through a ticketing system, email, or varying other reporting methods.
Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of semi-skilled trade activities to maintain City facilities, including inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of systems, fixtures, and equipment.
- Conduct basic electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, painting, and mechanical work.
- Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Assist skilled technicians with intermediate and advanced maintenance tasks across multiple trades.
- Inspect structures and facilities, evaluate work needed, and determine appropriate repair methods.
- Move, set up, and install appliances, furniture, and equipment.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of parts and equipment; report procurement needs to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor.
- Enter and complete electronic work orders in the work order management system.
- Respond to complaints and take appropriate action or escalate as needed.
- Work on a rotating on-call schedule to address after-hours needs and emergencies.
- Assist other departments with maintenance-related tasks as assigned.
- Follow established safety policies, procedures, and proper equipment usage.
- Perform manual duties and special projects as required.
- Serve as an essential employee during emergencies, special events, and inclement weather, including overtime and after-hours callouts.
This role is a City safety sensitive or DOT role that will require random drug screening.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and LicensesRequired Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- One (1) to Two (2) years of experience in facility maintenance or related field
- Any Equivalent education and experience.
Current certification in the following or the ability to obtain within six months of employment:
- NATE Ready-to-Work HVAC certificate or approved equivalent
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Basic knowledge of general construction; routine building maintenance and repair; building materials; structural, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, & mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of building maintenance practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
- Understanding of preventative maintenance techniques.
