Job Description
Position:
Principal Secretary – Van Buren Elementary School.
- Provide secretarial services to the principal and staff.
- Establish and maintain files for the principal and school office.
- Maintain the online student database and Infinite Campus files.
- Interact positively on a daily basis with parents, volunteers, visitors, students and staff.
- Supervise students in the office area.
- Prepare necessary district and state reports.
- Provide backup assistance for the health clinic.
- Schedules busing for field trips.
- Oversee the time clock for new and existing staff and manage approvals.
- Maintain the building calendar in Google.
- Maintain the building schedule for other groups using the facility.
- Keep deadlines.
- Handle paperwork involved with bookkeeping, payroll, fee collection, purchasing, substitute teachers, data processing, transportation, student records, and Free/Reduced lunch.
- Prepare and act as editor for the school newsletter.
- Order supplies for all staff.
- Other duties as may be assigned or developed.
Secretarial/Clerical Group F, Work Group – J. Eight (8) hours per day. Twelve (12) months.
EMPLOYMENT DATEASAP.
PREPARATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS- Knowledge of computer operation – word processing, database, spreadsheet applications, and e‑mail.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn BSO ordering system and Infinite Campus.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and initiate responsibility.
- Successful experience in a secretarial position with large numbers of students, parents and staff.
- Ability to work without supervision.
- Cross‑training in health secretary responsibilities.
- Knowledge of office machines – fax, scanner, and copy machine.
- Telephone skills: polite, tactful, and efficient.
- Proficiency in typing and other office skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Willingness to assume responsibility.
- Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.
- Capability of representing the school in a professional manner, including confidentiality, communication skills, and dress.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSFrequent standing, walking, use of hands and fingers, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching up to 36 inches. The employee must lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds within 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and the ability to focus while supervising students and working with computers.
WORKING ENVIRONMENTThe work environment is moderately quiet. Employees may need to work beyond typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. hours, supervise indoor and outdoor activities, and be outdoors for playground supervision, transportation, and field trips.
REQUIRED EDUCATION LEVELGED or High School Diploma.
SALARY AND BENEFITSalary: Hourly
Salary Range: $18.59 per hour
