The Technology Purchasing Specialist is responsible for managing the procurement of hardware and software products for client engagements and sales opportunities within RSM's Technology practice. Working with internal consultants, sales teams, vendors, and clients, this individual coordinates product sourcing, pricing, and purchasing activities to support business objectives and meet client requirements.
The ideal candidate must:- Ensure hardware and software orders are accurate and aligned with client requirements, budgets, and delivery timelines.
- Communicate product availability, order status, and tracking information to internal stakeholders and clients.
- Develop and maintain vendor relationships to identify pricing opportunities, promotions, and cost‑saving solutions.
- Complete accurate asset entry and maintain procurement records for purchased products.
- Participate in knowledge transfer and cross‑training initiatives to support team effectiveness and business continuity.
- Processing orders
- Ensure products are purchased in the most cost‑ and time‑efficient manner
- Updating client/consultant
- Serve as a mediator during disputes between vendors and consultants/clients
- Source product for best price and availability
- Process Returned Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs)
- Work with vendors and distributors to obtain RMA approvals
- Evaluate and report on distribution and manufacturer performance
- Work with Technology Solutions team on special pricing requirements
- Follow‑up with vendors and distributors on backorders
- Provide input, creative solutions, and ideas to the management team and IT consultants on product offerings
- Help to streamline and improve processes to increase efficiency
- Data entry of assets
- Reconciliation of monthly licensing invoices
- Learn pricing programs
- Work with distributors to take advantage of potential programs to reduce cost and drive margin
- Develop relationships with the distributors and direct buy manufacturers
- Maintain contact information for distributors and vendors
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in purchasing preferred
EXPERIENCE1-3 years of purchasing experience
TECHNICAL/SOFT SKILLS- Product knowledge and overall understanding of procurement
- Basic understanding of computers and computer systems
- Ability to work within a team atmosphere
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Effective time management and organization skills
