Our team of Safety Managers work with foremen, superintendents and project managers to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures. Managers maintain a visible presence on job sites and communicate with employees throughout the day by addressing safety inquiries, checking employee PPE, and completing incident investigations. They assist in the achievement of profitability and productivity goals. Safety Managers report to the Safety Director.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Project Safety Managers typically work 50-55 hours per week. This position is project-based and is not eligible for telework.

Job Requirements
  • Develop, plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). with foremen, superintendents, and project managers to ensure compliance with site‑specific safety and environmental procedures.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the project by attending and actively participating in daily Pre‑task Plan (PTP) discussions, project specific meetings, and site walks. Present relevant safety topics, updates, and best practices to promote awareness and reinforce safe work habits.
  • Serve as a liaison between McAninch Corporation, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Manage the process for obtaining site‑specific permits (e.g. dig permits, confined space, rigging) and complete all required documentation and inspection forms.
  • Lead incident and near‑miss investigations and prepare detailed reports identifying root causes, contributing factors, and corrective actions. Coordinate root cause analyses with site safety management.
  • Ensure all personnel receive site‑specific orientation and safety training.
  • Advise Safety Director on safety compliance concerns, opportunities for improvement, and recommend preventative actions.
  • Assist in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
  • Oversee inspection of job sites, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Maintain safety files and records.
  • Perform safety surveys and inspections. Ensure employees are properly trained, fitted, and equipped with required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other administrative duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years safety experience with OSHA, First Aid/CPR, Confined Spaces, DOT, and/or Excavation Safety in the construction industry in lieu of a degree.
  • CHST or CSP preferred or required within 6 months of hire if not already obtained.
  • Strong computer and communication skills with proven ability to write detailed reports, develop procedures, and document investigations.
  • Experience delivering safety training and presentations to small groups and able to effectively answer questions from employees, managers, and clients (including during Pre‑Task Planning sessions).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be available to travel overnight as needed (typically less than 20%).
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays (or on‑call as needed depending on project demands).
Physical Requirements
  • Primarily sedentary work, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors and stand/walk on uneven terrain.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching when in an office environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry light objects, typically up to 10 lbs.
