The Role

The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for planning and executing the construction program according to Suffolk’s procedures, including safety, quality, and schedule. Responsibilities may be divided by area or trade discipline.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and distribute construction documents to project team (Plans, Specifications, RFIs, Bulletins, Field Reports).
  • Manage layout and verify field dimensions.
  • Verify subcontractor layout for compliance with line and grade.
  • Administer Suffolk’s Quality Management Program:
    First Delivery and Benchmark Inspections, document deficiencies and track resolution.
  • Continuously monitor job progress on site, checking all work for compliance with Contract Documents.
  • Document daily construction activity using written reports, photographs, sketches and other software tools.
  • Create and distribute daily and weekly work plans, including schedules and logistics.
  • Attend and participate in weekly/monthly meetings with customers and clients, providing updates and addressing concerns.
  • Compile and maintain all required permits, testing, and inspections for project completion and acceptance.
  • Assist administration of Suffolk Safety Program (pre‑construction meetings, pre‑task planning, daily monitoring, enforcement of safety requirements).
  • Supervise and mentor Suffolk Field Engineers.
  • Communicate clear expectations for safety to project teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in related construction fields.
  • Self‑motivated.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong time management and multi‑tasking skills.

Working Conditions

Job requires sitting for long periods, using keyboard, telephone, or writing. Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with arms or hands. Requires good vision, ability to adjust focus. Work in a quiet to moderate office environment with occasional job site walking.
