Ames Construction, a leading general contractor with 60+ years of experience, is seeking a Project Engineer to support heavy‑civil and highway construction projects. The role focuses on planning, execution, safety, and quality for projects such as roadways, bridges, and other civil infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities to support project schedules and budgets.
- Design, review, and implement temporary works and construction means and methods with a strong emphasis on safety.
- Inspect installed work, equipment, and materials; identify issues and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
- Provide on‑site direction and technical support to foremen, crews, and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress and prepare accurate daily reports, quantities, and documentation.
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure work complies with contract documents, plans, and specifications.
- Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements and approved submittals.
- Enforce safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper use of PPE on the job site.
- Support project cost tracking, schedule updates, and coordination with project stakeholders.
- Assist with communication between the field, project management, owners, and inspectors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar role in heavy civil or highway construction.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials used in civil infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and job‑site safety practices.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work extended hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays.
The position is located in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, with potential national travel. Work is performed on active construction sites (highways, roadways, heavy civil infrastructure). Employees will be exposed to outdoor weather, heavy equipment, and construction hazards, and must wear personal protective equipment (PPE). The role requires walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting in a construction environment.
