About Quality “Plus” Services

Quality “Plus” Services (QPS) provides hands‑on safety leadership to some of the most demanding mission‑critical construction environments in the country. We believe safety works best when it is visible in the field, respected by the trades, and supported by leadership. Our safety professionals are embedded on site and empowered to act—protecting people, schedules, and our clients’ interests.

Position Summary

QPS is seeking a Construction Safety Professional to support a large‑scale data center project in Cedar Rapids, with a primary focus on structural steel erection, rigging operations, crane activity, and general construction safety.

This role is ideal for a safety professional who is comfortable working directly with ironworkers, superintendents, and subcontractors, understands the realities of heavy construction, and is willing to maintain a strong, consistent field presence. The position supports QPS’s mission to provide practical, no‑nonsense safety oversight in fast‑paced construction environments.

Field Safety Leadership
  • Maintain a full‑time, on‑site safety presence during active construction operations
  • Perform daily safety walks with emphasis on steel erection, rigging, crane lifts, and heavy equipment
  • Identify hazards and take immediate corrective action when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed
  • Enforce QPS, client, and OSHA safety standards consistently and professionally
Structural Steel & Rigging Oversight
  • Monitor structural steel erection activities, including work at height
  • Review and verify lift plans, rigging methods, and exclusion zones
  • Ensure proper use of fall protection systems, tie‑off points, and barricading
  • Coordinate closely with ironworkers and supervisors to reduce fall, struck‑by, and caught‑between hazards
Safety Planning & Documentation
  • Review, approve, and follow up on Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
  • Verify permits are issued, communicated, and followed as required
  • Maintain accurate inspection logs, reports, and corrective action tracking
  • Support internal and client safety audits when requested
Training & Communication
  • Conduct new‑hire safety orientations and task‑specific briefings
  • Lead toolbox talks relevant to active work scopes
  • Communicate safety expectations clearly and respectfully across all trades
  • Reinforce QPS’s proactive, solutions‑focused safety culture
Incident Response
  • Respond to incidents and near misses promptly
  • Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and reviewed for effectiveness
Required Qualifications
  • 3–7+ years of construction safety experience on large projects
  • Solid understanding of structural steel operations, rigging, cranes, and heavy construction hazards
  • Experience working in multi‑trade, GC‑led construction environments
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926
  • Ability to read and interpret emergency action plans, site logistics plans, and lift plans
  • Comfortable working directly with field crews and enforcing expectations
Qualifications
  • OSHA 30 (Construction) required; OSHA 510 or OSHA 500 strongly preferred
  • Prior experience on data center or large scale construction projects
  • Trade background (ironwork, carpentry, construction supervision, etc.) is a strong plus
  • Experience working alongside union and non‑union crews

Electrical safety experience is welcome but not required for this role.

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Full‑time presence on an active construction site
  • Ability to walk large sites, climb stairs/ladders, and remain on feet for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Must wear required PPE at all times on site
Why Join Quality “Plus” Services
  • Work with a respected safety‑first organization
  • Long‑term data center construction opportunities
  • Strong leadership support and clear authority in the field
  • Opportunity to play a visible role in complex, steel‑intensive construction phases
