Safety Director

Acme Electric Company is seeking a Safety Director to lead and continuously improve our company-wide safety program. This position is responsible for protecting employees, strengthening Acme’s safety culture, supporting field operations, maintaining regulatory compliance, and helping every employee take ownership of safe work practices.

We believe the safest companies are not built through enforcement alone. They are built through ownership, trust, coaching, and consistent field engagement.

Safety is not a top‑down program owned only by management. Safety is everyone’s responsibility, from apprentices to executive leadership. The role of the Safety Director is to help create the systems, habits, expectations, and culture that empower field employees to take ownership of safe work.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Coach first and enforce second.
• Build trust with field employees.
• Help crews solve safety challenges before they become incidents.
• Encourage employees to report near misses, hazards, and improvement ideas.
• Support foremen and supervisors as safety leaders.
• Reinforce positive behaviors, not just correct unsafe ones.
• Use enforcement when necessary, but never as the primary leadership tool.
• Create a culture where employees are comfortable speaking up, stopping work, and helping one another work safely.

This role requires someone who understands that long‑term safety performance comes from credibility, relationships, and employee engagement — not simply rules, audits, and paperwork.

This position requires a minimum 50/50 split between field presence and office/program responsibilities.

• Visiting active jobsites multiple days each week.
• Walking work areas with foremen and crews.
• Reviewing upcoming work with supervisors.
• Coaching employees during field observations.
• Assisting with Job Hazard Analyses, pre‑task plans, and high‑risk work planning.
• Supporting energized electrical work planning when applicable.
• Reviewing Lockout/Tagout procedures in the field.
• Helping crews identify and mitigate hazards before work begins.
• Recognizing positive safety behaviors.
• Gathering employee feedback and safety suggestions.
• Supporting customer safety meetings and site‑specific safety requirements.
• Ensuring Acme employees view safety leadership as a resource, not just enforcement.

• Develop employee ownership of safety at all levels of the organization.
• Coach supervisors, foremen, and general foremen on safety leadership.
• Support executive leadership in setting annual safety goals.
• Encourage near miss reporting, hazard identification, and employee‑generated improvement ideas.
• Lead safety meetings, safety committees, and company‑wide safety initiatives.
• Reinforce that safety is part of how work is planned, performed, and completed.

• Conduct regular jobsite visits and safety observations.
• Review field conditions, work methods, tools, equipment, and employee practices.
• Assist crews with practical hazard recognition and risk mitigation.
• Support project startup planning and site‑specific safety requirements.
• Participate in high‑risk work planning.
• Evaluate fall protection, confined space, excavation, material handling, aerial lift, rigging, and electrical safety practices.
• Verify proper use of PPE.
• Help identify barriers that prevent safe work and work with operations to remove them.
• Exercise stop‑work authority when necessary.
