Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Safety Technician to provide onsite safety support for a large-scale data center construction project in Cedar Rapids, Iota
.
The Safety Technician will work closely with project leadership, supervisors, subcontractors, and craft employees to identify hazards, promote safe work practices, and support compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety requirements.
The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of construction safety experience
, a strong field presence, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-contractor construction environment.
- Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections and observations.
- Identify unsafe conditions and work practices and communicate corrective actions.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with site safety requirements.
- Assist with pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses, and safety meetings.
- Conduct toolbox talks, orientations, and safety training as needed.
- Monitor fall protection, ladders, scaffolding, electrical safety, PPE, housekeeping, material handling, and equipment operations.
- Observe high-risk activities including elevated work, aerial and scissor lifts, excavation, hot work, rigging, and heavy equipment operations.
- Assist with incident and near-miss investigations and documentation.
- Maintain accurate safety inspection, training, and compliance records.
- Communicate safety concerns professionally with employees, supervisors, and project management.
- Support implementation of site-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, education, and consistent field engagement.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.
- 3–5 years of construction safety experience required.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 construction standards.
- Experience conducting jobsite safety inspections and hazard assessments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple safety priorities.
- Comfortable working with multiple contractors and trades.
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic reports and documentation.
- Previous experience on data center, mission-critical, industrial, manufacturing, or large commercial construction projects.
- OSHA 510, CHST, STS-C, GSP, or similar safety credentials.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Experience with fall protection, electrical safety, excavation, rigging, material handling, and heavy equipment operations.
Candidates must be able to walk active construction sites for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, navigate uneven terrain, work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, and wear required personal protective equipment throughout the workday.
