Pay is $1,304 per credit hour.

GENERAL

JOB SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, the instructor is responsible for fostering student learning in English for a Kirkwood campus. The instructor must evaluate, record, and report student achievement and progress in assigned courses in accordance with department, division, and College policies and procedures.

Successful ELA instructors have a good foundation in pedagogy, theories of language acquisition/learning, and sensibilities for working with students of other cultural and language backgrounds.

Adjunct faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions scheduled intermittently based on institutional need. Adjuncts are not guaranteed work in any semester and are notified of course assignments prior to each term as courses become available.

* Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and the general public.

Professionalism and Attention to Administrative Detail

* Prepare for, attend, and facilitate all classes and finals as scheduled.

* Communicate in advance to staff and dean when class is cancelled, is moved to another location (such as the library), or is taught by someone other than you.

* Check rosters to ensure that students in your section are registered for your section.

* Report attendance for financial aid purposes.

* Respond to students and to their work in a civil and timely fashion.

* Report midterm grades and final grades accurately and by the published deadlines.

* Respond to staff questions about scheduling matters.

* Respond to staff questions for book orders.

* Respond to staff and administrative communications about individual students.
