Job DescriptionOVERVIEW:
Provides instruction in the curricular area of Family and Consumer Science to students in ninth through twelfth grade.
ENDORSEMENT:
Must have or be able to obtain Iowa certification and appropriate 5-12 Family and Consumer Science endorsement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Essential duties must be performed on site. Other duties or tasks may be assigned.
- Develops and implements programming associated with Family and Consumer Science to be delivered in a classroom setting for secondary students.
- Supports and implements content‑related and appropriate instruction based on national, state and local curriculum through a combination of classroom and on‑site experiences including Career & Technical Student Organization development and participation.
- Maintains and manages program facilities and equipment.
- Maintains an up‑to‑date inventory of equipment.
- Adheres to all state guidelines required for the implementation of a successful program.
- Communicates responsibly with all stakeholders including active participation with Advisory Boards.
- Integrates and applies vocational English to daily lesson plans and hands‑on training for limited English speaking students.
- Assists School Staff with strategies to support and meet student needs and achievement of academic goals.
- Provides active communication and positive relationships with parents and community members.
- Assists in planning and delivery of social/emotional/behavioral school‑wide programming.
- Assists and collaborates with the principal, school counselor, staff, parents and students on matters pertaining to student achievement.
- Maintains appropriate records and protects the confidentiality of data.
- Meets the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria on a consistent basis.
- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and or
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have or be able to obtain Iowa certification and appropriate 5-12 Family and Consumer Science endorsement.
- Previous work experience in related careers such as professional kitchen, child care centers, interior and/or fashion design provides an opportunity for Initial CTE Authorization. Initial CTE Authorization information is available at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and candidates will be placed on a salary schedule in accordance with education and experience.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, assessment data, professional journals and regulations.
- Ability to effectively write reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents and staff.
- Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students.
- Ability to assist students in the areas of language and literacy.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions.
- Ability to assist students in implementing these mathematical concepts.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve problems effectively.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
