Exploratory Teacher - Computer Science - Harding
Location: Cedar Rapids Community School District Harding Middle School – Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Job OverviewSUMMARY: Provides instruction in the exploratory classes for students in grades sixth through eighth. Current responsibilities include teaching health and wellness.
ENDORSEMENTS: Health K-8, Health 5-12, or a Middle School 5-8 endorsement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Develops and implements programming associated with health and wellness for students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.
- Familiarity with project based learning.
- Supports and implements the district curriculum, standards, and benchmarks.
- Assists Middle School staff with strategies to support and meet student needs and achievement of academic goals.
- Maintains active communication and positive relationships with parents and community members.
- Assists in planning and delivery of social/emotional/behavioral school-wide programming.
- Collaborates with the principal, school counselor, staff, parents, and students on matters pertaining to exploratory classes.
- Maintains appropriate records and protects the confidentiality of data.
- Meets the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria on a consistent basis.
- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCERequired:
Bachelor's degree in Education.
Preferred:
Experience teaching in middle school grades.
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, assessment data, professional journals, and regulations; write reports and communications; present information orally; respond to questions; assist students in language and literacy.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions; assist students in implementing these concepts.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve problems effectively and interpret a variety of instructions given in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled forms.
OTHERSKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to apply current research to support educational goals; establish and maintain effective working relationships; speak clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSFrequent standing, walking, using hands, talking; occasional squatting, stooping, kneeling; lifting/moving up to 50 pounds; vision requirements include close and color vision; requires hand strength.
WORK ENVIRONMENTQuieter environment, professional working hours may extend beyond typical 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., work in various classroom areas, indoor and occasional outdoor activities.
