Summary
Provides instruction in the curricular areas to students in an elementary classroom.
Endorsements- Elementary Classroom K-6 (required)
- Reading K-8 (preferred)
- Develop and implement programming associated with all content areas for elementary‑aged students.
- Support and implement the district curriculum, standards and benchmarks.
- Assist school staff with strategies to support and meet students’ needs and achievement of academic goals.
- Provide active communication and positive relationships with parents and community members.
- Assist in planning and delivery of social, emotional and behavioral school‑wide programming.
- Assist and collaborate with the principal, school counselor, staff, parents and students on matters pertaining to teaching and learning.
- Maintain appropriate records and protect the confidentiality of data.
- Meet the eight Iowa Teaching Standards and forty‑two criteria consistently.
- Report to work as scheduled, regularly and reliably.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Education (required).
- Experience in classroom teaching upper elementary (preferred).
- Read, analyze, interpret and implement ideas contained in technical documents, assessment data, professional journals and regulations.
- Write reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents and staff.
- Present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students.
- Assist students in the areas of language and literacy.
- Perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions.
- Assist students in implementing these mathematical concepts.
- Solve problems effectively.
- Interpret a variety of instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Believe that all children can attain high levels of learning.
- Takes responsibility for the learning of children and one’s own performance.
- Build effective educational experiences that benefit all children.
- Operate collaboratively as an effective member of the educational team.
- Adhere to principles of continuous improvement through quality tools and processes.
- Utilize effective interpersonal skills and work with integrity.
Iowa Teaching Certification with an endorsement in the content area required.
Physical DemandsFrequent standing, walking, use of hands and fingers to handle and feel objects, lifting up to fifty pounds, and occasional pushing or pulling of furniture or carts. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
Work EnvironmentQuiet classroom setting with occasional outdoor activities. Work hours include the standard eight hour day but may require extensions beyond 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
