Language Arts (6th Grade) – Franklin
Full‑time classroom teacher at Cedar Rapids Community School District, Franklin Middle School.
Location:
Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
- Develop and implement programming associated with language arts to be delivered in a classroom setting for general education students.
- Support and implement the district curriculum, standards, and benchmarks.
- Assist school staff with strategies to support and meet students' needs and the achievement of academic goals.
- Provide active communication and positive relationships with parents and community members.
- Assist in planning and delivery of social, emotional, and behavioral school‑wide programming.
- Collaborate with administration, student‑support staff, parents, and students.
- Maintain appropriate records and protect confidentiality of data.
- Meet the eight Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 district criteria consistently.
- Report to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Education required.
- Experience teaching in a middle school preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, assessment data, professional journals, and regulations.
- Ability to write reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents, and staff.
- Ability to present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff, and students.
- Ability to assist students in the areas of language and literacy.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions.
- Ability to assist students in implementing these mathematical concepts.
- Ability to solve problems effectively and interpret a variety of written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule instructions.
- Believes that all children can attain high levels of learning.
- Takes responsibility for the learning of children and for personal performance.
- Possesses knowledge and skills to build effective educational experiences that benefit all children.
- Applies principles of continuous improvement through the use of quality tools and processes.
- Functions as an effective member of the educational and school team.

- Works with great integrity.
- Iowa Teaching Certification with a content‑area endorsement is required.
- Applies knowledge of current research related to supporting the district’s educational goals.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Speaks clearly and concisely in oral and written communication.
- Performs duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
The employee frequently must stand, walk, use hands and fingers, lift and move up to 50 pounds, bend or twist at the neck and trunk, and perform tasks that require hand strength and dexterity. The job may require reaching, stooping, kneeling, and working at varying heights above the head.
Work EnvironmentThe environment is typically quiet, with regular professional hours that may extend beyond a typical 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift. Employees work in various areas: desks, floor, standing, supervising indoor and outdoor activities, and may work outdoors when supervising students outside the classroom.
