Summary

Provides instruction in the curricular areas of reading and math to students in grades 6‑8.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement programming in language arts and math using district–supported iREADY tools.
  • Assess, set goals, monitor progress, and provide small‑group instruction as needed.
  • Support and implement the district curriculum, standards, and benchmarks.
  • Assist staff with strategies to support students and achieve academic goals.
  • Communicate actively and build positive relationships with parents and community members.
  • Assist in planning and delivering school‑wide social, emotional, and behavioral programming.
  • Collaborate with the principal, counselor, staff, parents, and students on language arts and math matters.
  • Maintain accurate records and protect confidentiality of data.
  • Meet the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria consistently.
  • Report to work as scheduled on a reliable basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education and a valid Iowa Teaching Certification with the endorsements listed above are required.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education.
  • Experience teaching in grades 6‑8 preferred.
Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and apply information from technical documents, assessment data, professional journals, and regulations; write reports and communications; present information orally; assist students in language and literacy.

Mathematical Skills

Competence in basic mathematical operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, fractions—and ability to help students apply these concepts.

Reasoning Ability

Capacity to solve problems and interpret various written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule‑based instructions.

Physical Demands

Typical demands include standing, walking, handling objects, frequent squatting/stooping, reaching overhead, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing or pulling items, and requiring good vision to supervise students and use computers.

Work Environment

The environment is mostly quiet indoor classrooms with occasional outdoor supervision. Work hours may extend beyond the standard 8:00‑4:00 pm schedule. Teachers operate in varied classroom settings and may work in different temperature ranges.
