Kenwood Elementary School – Cedar Rapids, Iowa Job Description Principal Duties
- Under direction of professional staff work with students individually or in group settings.
- Assist with supervision of students (classroom, cafeteria, halls, etc.).
- Implement behavior management strategies.
- May include riding the bus with students.
- May include working one to one with student to complete assigned tasks.
- Student supervision required.
- Ensuring student safety is required.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist students with the necessary health assistance under the guidance of the nurses.
- Assist in the preparation of materials used in the educational process.
- Assist students at mealtime.
- Assist students in personal hygiene areas.
- Help get students to and from bus or car.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
- Assignments may vary based on building and district needs.

- Seven hours (7) hours per day
- $17.26/hr
- Two-year postsecondary education, Para educator certificate, or qualifying score on NCRC assessment test required.
Position will commence in the school year. Start date to be determined.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, and talk and hear. The employee must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and forward 0 to 24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches. The employee uses hand strength to grasp items and frequently bends or twists at the neck and trunk.
The employee must lift or move up to 50 pounds 0 to 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet (curriculum materials, desks, chairs, and boxes). The employee may push or pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and color vision.
The work environment is usually quiet. The position requires professional working hours that may extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in various classroom areas, including desks, floor, and outdoors while supervising students. The noise level is generally quiet. Indoor temperatures are used, but the employee may work outdoors when supervising students outside of the classroom.
