Long Term for Elementary PACT

4 hours/day

SUMMARY

Serves as a primary advocate and resource in the area of gifted education for students and families as well as a liaison among District, building staff, students, and parents on matters pertaining to the academic and affective needs of gifted learners in elementary grades.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Initiate and coordinate identification and documentation of students to be served through PACT
  • Recommend and implement programming and services for identified students
  • Promote opportunities for advanced learning among underrepresented populations
  • Monitor student participation in District sponsored or approved events
  • Support and extend the district curriculum and student learning expectations as well as those of the Program for Academic and Creative Talent
  • Actively participate in the District PACT Professional Learning Community
  • Identify resources for and provide support to classroom teachers to promote appropriate instructional accommodations for gifted learners
  • Educate building staff about characteristics and needs of gifted learners including twice-exceptional, at-risk, and under-represented populations
  • Advise students and parents of opportunities for gifted learners
  • Assess student learning progress
  • Prepare reports and evaluations as needed
  • Maintain appropriate records and protect the confidentiality of data
  • Participate in gifted and talented training sessions and pursue continuing professional growth in the area of gifted education
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Education required. Experience in classroom teaching preferred as well as Iowa Endorsement in Gifted Education. In addition, the specific skills/educational qualifications for this include:

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, assessment data, professional journals and regulations. Ability to effectively write reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents and staff. Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students. Ability to assist students in the areas of language and literacy.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions. Ability to assist students in implementing these mathematical concepts.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

An endorsement in Education of the Gifted K-12.

Ability to apply knowledge of current research as it relates to the support of the Educational Goals of the District. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
