Program Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non Exempt-Seasonal

Reports to: Summer Camp & Retreats Director

Applications are being accepted for a creative, enthusiastic leader to be our Program Coordinator. This position can be used as an internship or fieldwork experience and is a temporary, seasonal position during the spring or fall with potential for summer employment.

The Program Coordinator works under the guidance of the Retreats Director to deliver high-quality programs for all guests and groups who come to Camp Wapsie. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for hosting, facilitating programs and activities, including outdoor education, team-building programs, and climbing activities. Training is provided. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with marketing; recruiting program participants; planning, developing, and implementing programs for various age groups helping with housekeeping and food service.

The applicant must enjoy working and interacting with people of all ages and demographics in an outdoor setting. Additionally, they should have some experience teaching recreational lessons or activities. The candidate must possess strong communication and leadership skills and working knowledge of the recreation field. The applicant must practice and model the important core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Current CPR, First Aid, and lifeguarding certifications are preferred.

Weekly stipend starting at $325 per week, YMCA membership, free housing, and meals are provided when guests are on-site, internet access, training on activities including climbing tower and zip line.

YMCA Camp Wapsie is located in Coggon, Iowa, on 182 acres of scenic woodlands and wetlands with an oxbow lake off the Wapsipinicon River. Conveniently located just 30 minutes outside Cedar Rapids, Iowa, our picturesque outdoor setting and winterized lodges and cabins make us an ideal retreat facility for groups throughout the year. Camp Wapsie has been offering summer camp and retreat programs since 1918.

YMCA Camp Wapsie’s year-round programming provides retreats, outdoor education, and team-building programs for groups of all ages. Specialty camps and family camps are also offered throughout the year. YMCA Camp Wapsie is accredited by the American Camping Association and hosts approximately 5,000 guests and campers annually.
