Special Education Facilitator – 6-12 (2 Positions)
Join the Cedar Rapids Community School District as a Special Education Facilitator to strengthen compliance, instructional alignment, and student outcomes within special education.
Key Responsibilities- Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDRs):
Ensure legally sound, timely, and consistent processes across buildings. - Private and Charter School Oversight
:
Strengthen district accountability and alignment for students served outside traditional settings. - IEP Alignment and Follow‑Up
:
Monitor roster accuracy and ensure services are delivered in alignment with IEPs. - ACHIEVE System Support
:
Provide direct support to teachers to improve IEP quality, compliance, and usability. - New Special Education Teacher Coaching
:
Build capacity through targeted onboarding, mentoring, and instructional support. - Secondary Transition & IDEA‑DA Work
:
Advance work‑based learning, post‑secondary outcomes, and district IDEA‑DA priorities. - Professional Learning
:
Design and deliver targeted training for para educators and Special Education Interventionists (SEIs).
- Analyze multiple sources of data to support teachers with diagnostic design of instruction or instructional intervention (HRS 2.4).
- Work directly with teachers, administration, and support staff in the off‑site school program to carry out district vision through classroom‑based demonstrations and PLC support.
- Assist teachers in using research‑based digital literacy strategies and differentiated instruction.
- Consult the Special Services Director regarding extended exclusionary decisions and community involvement.
- Monitor and facilitate IEP compliance, including academic achievements, functional behavioral analysis, and behavioral intervention plans.
- Lead, implement, and facilitate district initiatives aligned with High‑Reliability Schools.
- Facilitate student return to the traditional home school instructional setting in a timely manner.
- Respond to crisis situations within the building.
- Provide professional learning for PBIS and Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 189 days of service in the school year.
- Compensation aligned with Teacher Master Contract; up to 10 additional days at $340 per day for delivering professional learning.
- Evidence‑based practice knowledge and ability to coach teachers to improve academic and social‑emotional outcomes.
- Design, present, and facilitate adult learning experiences.
- Deep knowledge of equity principles and culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Willingness to become knowledgeable in the High‑Reliability Schools framework.
- Experience with research‑based strategies in digital literacy, social‑emotional learning, trauma‑informed care, and crisis prevention.
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Community processes.
- Strong mentoring and coaching skills.
- Excellent communication and collaborative relationships with students, parents, staff, administrators, and community members.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Standard Iowa Teaching License with five years of teaching experience (preferably with IEP students) and Special Education Teaching Certificate.
Frequent standing, walking, and handling of materials. Requires kneeling, squatting, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occupational tasks include supervising students, using computers, and other duties requiring fine motor skills, vision, and communication.
Work EnvironmentQuiet classroom setting with occasional supervision of indoor and outdoor activities. May require extended hours beyond the typical 8 a.m.–4 p.m. workday.
