Job Description

  • Work with students individually or in group settings under direction of professional staff.
  • Assist with supervision of students in classroom, cafeteria, halls, and other school areas.
  • Implement behavior management strategies.
  • May include riding the bus with students.
  • May include working one‑to‑one with students to complete assigned tasks.
  • Student supervision and ensuring student safety are required.
  • Assist students with necessary health assistance under guidance of nurses.
  • Assist in preparation of materials used in the educational process.
  • Assist students at mealtime and in personal hygiene areas.
  • Help get students to and from bus or car.
  • Assignments may vary based on building and district needs; other duties may be assigned.
Classification
  • Teacher Associates
  • Seven hours (7) per day
  • $17.26 per hour
  • Two‑year post‑secondary education or Para educator certificate or qualifying score on NCRC assessment test required.
Employment
  • Position will not start until the 2026‑2027 school year.
  • Start date to be determined.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently stands, walks, uses hands and fingers to handle objects, talks and hears.

The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel; reach above the head and forward 0 to 24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp items, bends or twists at the neck and trunk more than the average person. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 to 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet (e.g., curriculum materials, desks, chairs, boxes).

The employee sometimes pushes or pulls items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers and written materials.

Working Environment

The position requires professional working hours that may require extending beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday.

The employee frequently works in different areas of the classroom, including at desks, on or near the floor, standing, and in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities. The employee usually works in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when supervising students outside the classroom.
